Design Concept

We chose to do our project on the Sans-serif typeface “Frutiger” designed by Adrian Frutiger in 1976. Frutiger was designed years after Adrian Frutiger’s Univers. The age difference between the two fonts shows sophistication and elegance within the typeface. While Univers was designed when Adrian was 28 years old, this typeface was designed in his 50s and shows more confidence in himself as a designer.

The typeface was designed for Roissy Airport in the early 1970s before the airport’s renaming as Paris Charles de Gaulle. The typeface had to take many things into consideration before it would finally be used as airport signage.
